It is important to pump your septic tank every 3 years. The reason for septic tank cleaning or pumping is to prevent any system malfunction and failures. The idea is to keep from overloading your septic tank's lateral field with solid waste.

Septic Tank Maintenance

When a septic tank isn’t emptied (cleaned or pumped) often enough, it will cause the solid waste in the tank to go into the lateral field, which will plug up the soil and filtering ability of the lateral field. Once the lateral field is compromised there is limited to no way to rejuvenate it. Then at that point, a full replacement will be needed. We do not replace septic tanks, but do clean, pump, repair, and maintain them.
